Anticoagulation Clinic

The practice now can offer in house anticoagulation testing for Warfarin control by our Practice Nurses, Kate Philbin, Cassie Allen and Caroline Giddings.  This is done via a finger prick blood test and computer support system.

This system will relieve pressure on busy hospital anticoagulation clinics and local phlebotomy services as well as being more convenient to patients.  All eligible patients will be contacted by the practice and if interested will be invited to the clinic in a rolling programme to enable best clinic time management.

Asthma Clinic

Our asthmatic patients are offered regular appointments with the Nurse Practitioner in the Asthma Clinic on Wednesdays and Thursdays and the occasional Monday.  The clinic has been very successful and we have seen a marked improvement in the control of asthma symptoms since the clinic has been introduced.  The Nurse provides an assessment and full explanation of treatment, including teaching correct inhaler techniques.  She liaises with the Doctor when changes in treatment are recommended.

Baby Clinic/ Child Health

These clinics held on a Tuesday 2.00 – 3.30pm and Thursday 2.00 – 3.30pm are for babies to have their childhood immunisations given by the Practice Nurse.  These are for children between the ages of 8 weeks and 5 years old.  Thursday afternoons are for Child Health Surveillance for new babies where they have an appointment with the Doctor for baby’s 8 week check and if all is well the baby will then go on to have its first set of immunisations.  Childhood Immunisation Schedule

CHD Clinic

The Practice Nurse runs a Coronary Heart Disease Clinic (CHD) on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday afternoons by invitation.  The patients who need to attend this clinic need to be assessed for risk of CHD and will be referred by their GP.  You will have a blood test two weeks before, then a 30 minute appointment when full medical and family history, ECG etc. will be taken.  These will be reviewed by your GP.

Diabetic Clinic

The Practice Nurse runs a Diabetic Clinic on Wednesday afternoons by invitation.  The Nurse performs an examination of blood pressure, vision, urine and blood tests.  She also provides advice on diabetic control, diet and smoking.  A twenty minute follow-up appointment is arranged with your own Doctor with a view to assessing the blood test result and providing further advice.

Influenza Vaccination

We offer a flu vaccination in October every year to those patients who are at particular risk of influenza.  These include patients over the age of 65 years, diabetics and those with chronic chest, heart and kidney problems.  We do not recommend a routine vaccination for fit and healthy adults.

Minor Surgery and Joint Injections

Can be performed in appropriate cases

Stroke

We are now offering an annual check up with the Practice Nurse, for patients with a past history of stroke or transient ischaemic attack (ministroke).  Patients will be invited to attend by the Nurse.
